The Filipino Chief Engineer of a Bulk Carrier Dies in France
A 49-year-old Filipino Chief Engineer of the bulk carrier NORD SUNDA, died on July 16, in a hospital in Le Havre, France reportedly from Covid-19.
On July 13, six crew-members who tested positive for Covid have been repatriated to Manila.
Five additional crew members who were hospitalized, and have since recovered from Covid-19 repatriated to Manila on July 18.
As NORD SUNDA found itself in a life-threatening medical emergency, it called Le Havre on June 30. The ship was on its way from Buchanan Liberia to Dunkirk France with iron ore in the cargo. 5 crew members were hospitalized; the remaining 16 crew members tested positive. At around noon on June 30, the bulk carrier was rerouted to Le Havre and berthed at around 12:00p.m.
