Rescued X-Press Pearl crew member tests positive for Covid
Vessel operator says one seafarer from the X-Press Feeders’ boxship ablaze off Sri Lanka has tested positive for Covid-19 and that two others were injured during rescue.
In an update on yesterday’s news, the Singapore-based operators of the X-Press Pearl say one of the seafarers rescued from the blazing 2,743-teu containership has tested positive for Covid-19.
The man has been transferred to a special facility in a military hospital for treatment. “He remains asymptomatic,” the company said.
The spokesperson added that two other mariners received leg injuries during their evacuation and remain in hospital in a stable condition.
“The other 23 crew members are in a Colombo quarantine facility and are in good health,” the company said.
