Five mariners fall ill with “severe” Covid aboard Norden bulker
Affected crew hospitalised while rest of ship’s company in isolation in Le Havre.
Five crew members of the Norden-operated bulker, Nord Sunda, have fallen ill with “severe” Covid-19 symptoms and been hospitalised in Le Havre, France. French media reports the 63,000-dwt vessel re-directed to Le Havre on 30th June.
Emergency services evacuated the five seafarers and the rest of the ship’s crew are in isolation aboard the 2019-built vessel. A shore guard has been posted and food and water is being provided as needed.
The Nord Sunda was en route from Liberia to Dunkirk with a shipment of iron ore when she was boarded off Guernsey by French medics. After Covid-19 was identified as the cause of illness it was decided the vessel should divert to Le Havre so the affected crew could be hospitalised.
