Vaccinations for seafarers in US hits 20,000
Over 70 US ports offering jab to foreign mariners.
According to figures published by the North American Maritime Association (NAMMA), more than 20,000 seafarers have been inoculated against Covid-19 in the United States.
NAMMA executive director Jason Zuidema said:
“We have passed the ‘20,000-foreign-seafarers-vaccinated’ mark this week… I express sincere thanks to all seafarers’ welfare organisations, ITF representatives, health providers, industry partners, and port or government representatives that continue to work together to make this happen.”
More than 70 US ports, including Honolulu, now offer Covid vaccinations to mariners, regardless of nationality and Mr. Zuidema said thousands more jabs are likely to have been administered to mariners through commercial outlets and the cruise industry.
