Long Lost U.S. Military Crash Site Found
San Diego Researchers Help
Research specialists from San Diego have been instrumental in identifying the remains of a U.S. military pilot who crashed off the coast of Vietnam more than 40 years ago.
Underwater search technology recently developed helped find the wreckage of a plane crash that occurred in 1967 over the South China Sea.
A pair of B-52 bombers collided in midair, catching fire, and then plunging into the ocean. Three members of the crew remained missing after a major search and recovery effort.
A lot of work by the Scripps Oceanography researchers was required to pinpoint the exact crash site. To aid in their research, a San Diego team used underwater drones that scanned and located debris in the murky water.
