Maritime-tech CEO to focus on justice for seafarers
Frank Coles has resigned from Hong-Kong-based Wallem Group, to pursue new role as proponent of mariners’ rights.

Marine technology company, Wallem Group has announced that its CEO, Frank Coles, has resigned and will now focus on securing better rights for mariners, particularly regarding the ongoing crew-change crisis.
Wallem Group said in a statement: “As many will be aware Frank has been very active in highlighting the plight of seafarers during the Covid-19 pandemic and now wishes to become more involved in promoting their welfare, as well as pursuing other opportunities.”
Coles has been an outspoken critic of the plight of mariners since the pandemic began and has helped raise awareness of the difficulties faced by crews and the hardships they have suffered as a result of quarantine rules and travel restrictions. He has a Master Mariner certificate and a Master’s degree in maritime law.
Mr Coles said: “I am proud of the changes I have brought to Wallem, and for the advances we have made. After all these years in the maritime industry, I would now like to focus on putting something back and on the welfare and rights of seafarers.”
John Kaare Aune, Managing Director of Wallem Shipmanagement, will take over as interim CEO until further notice.
