Salvage team ready to remove fuel from Crimson Polaris
Fuel removal operation will concentrate on forward section of wrecked woodchip carrier.
Salvors in Japan are preparing to unload 1,000 tonnes of fuel from the wreck of the NYK-operated 49,549-dwt Crimson Polaris.
The woodchip-carrier went aground off Hachinohe and broke in two during heavy weather earlier this month.
A tanker is standing by to remove the fuel after the salvage team stabilises the forward section.
The broken hull is expected to be declared a total loss, although according to VesselsValue it may be worth in the region of $15.82m.
