Crowley and Shell Planning to Build the Largest LNG Bunker Barge
Crowley and Shell Announce Long Term Agreement
A long term agreement between Crowley Maritime Corporation and Shell NA LNG, LLC, (Shell) has both companies announcing a joint venture to build the largest Jones Act-compliant vessel of its kind.
The system is anticipated to be launched in 2024 to serve the increasing number of LNG-fueled ships on the US East Coast in an effort to assist an expanding network capacity and providing sustainable energy to satisfy rising demand.
The 126.8-meter-long barge will have capacity for 12,000 cu m, feature high-tech cargo handling and faster transfer capabilities, and it will incorporate a new solution from Shell and Crowley Engineering Services that can accommodate various LNG containment systems while still being flexible and able to quickly move LNG to where it is needed.
Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, in the US, will construct the vessel.
