The World’s First Hybrid Cruise Ship Gets Delivered
Vard Shipyard
Leading the way in innovation is Le Commandant Charcot, the world’s first hybrid-powered polar exploration vessel equipped with ice-breaking technology, as well as being powered by LNG.
The ship, which is approximately 150 meters long and 28 meters wide, features an electric hybrid design with LNG propulsion, with a capacity for 245 passengers.
The Le Commandant Charcot is a purpose-built vessel that is designed for intense polar exploration, and it is equipped with PC2 Polar Class certification. It is specifically designed for long-term, polar expeditions, which may last from two weeks to one month.
The company believes that this ship will be capable of making all of its routes using LNG thanks to the two tanks with a total capacity of 4,500 cubic meters.
It was announced that the Le Commandant Charcot has been delivered to French cruise company Ponant from Vard Shipyard.
