Help Arrives in Cuba from Mexico
Cuba to Get Help from Mexican Sealift Ships
To help alleviate the shortages and decrease discontent, Cuba recently received donations of food and medical care from its allies Mexico, Russia, and Bolivia.
The supplies began coming to the country on July 30, three weeks after the protests began in response to the civil rights freedoms and economic situation.
As part of a medical shipment sent to help combat the current high infection rate in Cuba, a Mexican naval ship containing a thousand tons of beans, together with medical equipment and oxygen for COVID-19 patients, landed in the country on Friday. Later that day it was announced that two more will arrive shortly.
As a result of decades of US sanctions, Cuba blames the unrest on US-backed mercenaries exploiting hardships that the country claims were mostly brought about by the US. They are accused of spreading the unrest through the #SOSCuba campaign, which calls for humanitarian relief.
