K Line says data security incident “under control”
Japanese owner confirms hacking incident at overseas office and engages cyber security experts.
Japanese shipowner K Line has confirmed that it has suffered a cyber security incident at one of its overseas offices. The line said it has engaged the services of outside experts to investigate and describes the security breach as “under control”.
“We have confirmed that there was unauthorised access to overseas subsidiary systems, and we are aware that information and data alleged to have been acquired from overseas subsidiary system was published recently,” K Line said in a statement.
The shipowner said it has already confirmed the security and safety of the systems, and that there is “no indication that the unauthorised access continues”. It did not, however, say where the breach had occurred or what information had been accessed.
