HMM orders 12 boxships in $1.57bn deal
Korean line capitalises on boxship bull run with twelve 13,000 teu newbuildings.
HMM has signed deals with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Hyundai heavy Industries (HHI) for each yard to build six 13,000 teu containerships.
The new vessels are slated for delivery in the first half of 2024 and will feature scrubbers and be LNG-ready. The total value of the deal comes to $1.57bn.
An HMM official said, “Our newly ordered containerships will be fitted with the latest energy-efficient technologies.
“We expect these ships to give us strong environmental credentials, as well as to provide us with the capacity and flexibility to get our customers’ cargo to the right place at the right time.”
