Zodiac Maritime increases fleet with three newbuilds
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to supply three new VLGCs for Eyal Ofer-led company
Zodiac Maritime has ordered three new VLGC newbuilds from South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). Zodiac, based in Monaco, is paying $78 a vessel for the 91,000-cbm ships. All will be able to run on LPG and conventional fuels.
The deal will double the company’s VLCG fleet to six vessels. The company also has three midsize LPG carriers and recently took delivery of the 84,00-cbm VLCG, Durham. The latest LPG carrier deal follows swiftly after a deal for a number of boxships that Zodiac booked at the Daewoo yard earlier this year.
Zodiac says it does not comment on commercial matters, but industry sources say the recent orders at the DSME yard are certainly from the company. DSME says the latest three VLGC orders bring the total number of new vessels it contracted to build this year to 19, at a value of $1.79bn.
