Green light from Denmark for Nord Stream 2?
Russian-led consortium, NS2, looks set to complete gas pipeline after Danish Maritime Authority gives possible go-ahead.
By Marc Allen, Maritime Direct UK.
The Danish Maritime Authority has likely given approval for the Gazprom-led, Nord Stream 2 consortium, to complete its pipelaying operations in the Baltic Sea near Bornholm, reports Reuters.
Nautiskinformation, the authority’s marine information service, notified mariners that restriction zones would come into force near the pipeline site on Friday 15th and observers see this as a clear indication that pipe-laying vessel Fortuna will commence work on the remaining unfinished section.
Work has been delayed by US sanctions since 2019 and the US regards the line as a strategic mistake that will leave Europe dependent on Russian gas. A spokesman for NS2 group said he would not comment on the notice-to-mariners. However, Germany’s Handelsblatt reported that the consortium would probably be able to say at the end of January or in early February when work will resume.
