DFDS expands direct Rosslare-Dunkirk route
Fourth freight ferry added to DFDS’ Ireland to France service.
Ferry line, DFDS, has announced it is adding a fourth freight ferry to its direct Rosslare to Dunkirk route. From 1st April, the DFDS Ark Dania will add an additional 188 truck units to the company’s capacity.
Haulage companies have come to prefer the direct route from the Republic of Ireland to France, as it avoids the post-Brexit delays, border checks and paperwork that come from using the UK as a land bridge. A further advantage is that drivers are well rested after the sea crossing and can continue driving immediately upon arrival at either port.
DFDS launched the direct route soon after Brexit as a cost-efficient alternative for trade between Ireland and continental Europe, and Aidan Coffey, Route Director says: “Ark Dania is an important addition to the route. It’s a very versatile ferry capable of carrying diverse types of cargo. It will also free up capacity on our three other ferries for more driver accompanied freight units.
“We have strong demand from all sectors of industry looking to use the direct route to North-Central Europe, as more and more realise the benefits of using the direct route compared to the UK land-bridge”.
