World’s biggest jack-up to start work at Dogger Bank
Belgian shipowner, Jan De Nul, wins third Dogger Bank contract.
Jan De Nul has won its third Dogger Bank wind farm contract and will construct another 87 structures at the site, bringing its tally to 277 turbines in total.
The shipowner will use its 169-metre, 21,500-dwt jack-up vessel, Voltaire, to transport and install the 87 GE Haliade-X 14 MW turbines for Dogger Bank C.
Voltaire has a lifting capacity of 3,000 tonnes and will be the world’s largest jack-up vessel when it enters service in 2022.
Steve Wilson, Dogger Bank’s project director at SSE Renewables, said: “Jan De Nul Group has a great track record for the transportation and installation of turbines on scale, and offshore wind farms don’t come any bigger than ours.”
“Securing this state-of-the-art vessel for all three phases of Dogger Bank Wind Farm is another reminder of how we’re working with our suppliers to drive innovation in offshore wind,” Wilson added.
