Containership involved in Dubai blast “cooling off” say authorities
A small containership involved in an explosion at the Jebel Ali Port is understood to be operated by a local shipping company.
An explosion and ensuing fire aboard a small containership at the Jebel Ali Port in Dubai has been extinguished, say local authorities.
Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, the director general of Dubai civil defence said the port fire is under control. “The cooling process is underway,” he said.
AIS data indicates the blast occurred aboard the 1993-built, 210-teu containership Ocean Trader, which is operated by Dubai-based Inzu Ship Charter. Two tugs remain in attendance near the vessel.
DP World, which operates Jebel Ali, said the incident is now “over”. The spokesman added no injuries have been reported and that he is not aware of any hazardous cargo on board.
