VIDEO: Drone Footage from Inside Hurricane Sam

Saildrone Inc. has been working on an uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) drone named Explorer SD 1045 that’s equipped with a “hurricane wing” allowing it to operate in extreme weather conditions while in the ocean.

Collectively Saildrone and NOAA are now collecting data from Hurricane Sam, a Category 4 hurricane churning over the Atlantic Ocean and have released video footage to show their results as the first ever footage has been captured while inside the Hurricane.

Battling 120mph winds and 50 foot waves, the Explorer SD 1045 was able to capture scientific data and visuals of extreme conditions never seen.
