Start-up commissions Ulstein to design non-fossil fuel boxship
EDGE Navigation AS aims to have commercially viable zero-emission fleet by 2025.
Norwegian shipbuilder, Ulstein, has been commissioned to build a non-fossil fuel containership by Oslo-based start-up EDGE Navigation AS.
The young company has set itself the ambitious goal of bringing “economic and scalable green-energy” commercial cargo ships to the market by 2025. The new design will feature Ulstein’s patented X-BOW
“Energy efficiency will be a key component to making the energy transition happen and with Ulstein we have a partner with a strong track record for innovative designs, including their proven X-BOW® solution,” said Jakob Tolstrup-Møller, Managing Director – CEO at EDGE Navigation.
“Less power needed per container under a wider range of operating scenarios due to the X-BOW will lower the bar for switching into Green Energy propulsion.”
