Container vessel Lagarfoss has made it home to Reykjavik after two days under tow. The 11,800 DWT vessel is owned by Icelandic line, Eimskip, who made the announcement on Friday. The six-year-old vessel has a carrying capacity of 880 TEU and left Reykjavik on 25th December, bound for Halifax.

The ship was approximately 230 nm south-west of Iceland when there was a malfunction with the main engine that left the ship adrift. The crew were unable to effect repairs and the owners decided to ask for assistance.

The ICG dispatched the patrol boat, Þórs, which reached the Lagarfoss on 29th. A tow line was attached, and towing commenced at around 04.00 local time. All crew are safe and Eimskip says it will be contacting customers with cargo aboard to help with making further arrangements.
