China launches its first all-electric tug

Yungang Electric No. 1 goes into service at the Chinese port of Lianyungang.
The first-all electric tug to enter service in China has been launched at the north eastern Port of Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province on the Yellow Sea.
Yungang Electric No. 1 uses a lithium ion phosphate battery and can achieve 4000 horsepower which is a similar bollard pull to conventional tug boats.
The tug was built by Lianyungang Port Holding Group’s Barge Branch and has a length of 116 feet, a beam of 33 feet, and a draft of 11.5 feet. It can operate for up to eight hours between charges and has a top speed of 13 knots.
According to estimates, the E-tug will save about 300 tons of fuel consumption and reduce emissions by 900 tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to 400 cars.
