UK to fund space tech in effort to curb maritime emissions

The UK Space Agency will oversee the funding of five new tech projects, one of which will be research by the University of Leicester aimed at monitoring maritime carbon-emissions. The news was announced in a press release yesterday.

Science Minister Amanda Solloway said: “Today’s funding will provide lift-off to some of the country’s most ambitious space collaborations, accelerating potentially game-changing technologies that will help the UK respond to global challenges such as cutting carbon emissions.”

Redshift Associates Ltd., in collaboration with the University of Leicester, will develop analytics systems to track ship emissions and to establish emission audits of fleets and individual vessels. The project builds upon previous work developing analytics solutions for ports, harbours.
