Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) revealed that they have reached a coal transport deal with the Tohoku Electric Supply Co. in Miyagi Prefecture and plan to have a New 235m LOA and 99,000 DWT Wind-Assisted Coal Carrier operational by 2022. It will be the first of it’s kind.

It is hoped that the ship’s wind-power propulsion system will reduce emissions by 5 percent on the Japan/Australia route and 8 percent on the Japan/North America route.

The Wind Challenger telescoping hard sail converts wind power to propulsive force and can significantly reduce emissions.
