Venerable Danish naval-architecture firm, Knud E. Hansen, has announced that all three of its striking hybrid ro-ros are now in construction. The ultra-green ships are being built by Nanjing Jinling Shipyard in China and a ceremonial plate-cutting for the third vessel took place on 16th December.

The new vessels are part of Finnlines EUR 500-million building programme and will also include two eco-efficient ro-pax vessels. All of the new ships are being built with the latest green technologies and will feature lithium-ion battery systems, modern two-stroke engines, emission abatement systems, solar panels, and an innovative air lubrication-system.

Emanuele Grimaldi, CEO of Finnlines said: “In the past years, we have steered investments to sustainable development. We have invested in energy efficiency and green technologies and our newbuilding programme focuses on many energy-saving features…”
