Greek Reporters reports about an online post from the United Nation’s Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, affirming maritime boundaries that separate Greece and Egypt.

This partial demarcation paves the way for establishing an EEZ or Exclusive Economic Zone in the Eastern Mediterranean region, that is expected to give each country exclusive rights over natural resources in the area.

Greek sources have labelled UN’s publishing of the deal as a “diplomatic success”.

These same sources go on to assert that this occurrence has only come about thanks to longstanding efforts made by the Foreign Minister of Greece, Nikos Dendias, who regularly corresponded with Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, on this matter.
