Latin American breadbasket hoping to resume unfettered exports.

A labour ministry spokesman has told Reuters that the Argentinian government hopes to resolve the strike that has disrupted the country’s grain exports, by sponsoring a meeting this Tuesday between oilseed workers and export companies.

Argentina is South America’s third-largest economy and the world’s top producer of soybean meal for livestock. She is also a major exporter of corn, wheat, and raw soybeans. Agricultural workers say they are fighting for pay in-step with rising inflation and as compensation for the elevated risks associated with working during a pandemic.

“In principle, the meeting will start at 11 a.m. (1400 GMT),” the spokesman said. Both sides of the dispute have been dogged in their resolve not to concede anything to the other side, and the long-lasting industrial action has threatened the country’s finances and disrupted the loading of over 100 cargo ships.
