Britanny Ferries has announced that the Galicia is back on her moorings in Portsmouth International Port after her lines parted in high winds. Emergency responders were alerted to the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning and the tugboats Bountiful, Warrior and Scotsman were able to manoeuvre the vessel back onto her berth.

The stern of the ship went aground near Whale Island, but there were no passengers aboard at the time. No one was injured during the incident and no pollution was created. Brittany Ferries says it will work with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch and Portsmouth International Port to determine the cause of the accident.

Graham Boyes, Brittany Ferries’ operations manager for Portsmouth said: “Galicia is now safely back alongside, thanks to the quick and expert actions of her captain and crew, the port pilots and tugboat crews, and our partners at the Queen’s Harbour Master, Portsmouth Port Authority and Portsmouth International Port. We’d like to thank everyone involved for their excellent teamwork in bringing the incident to a quick and safe conclusion.”
