Maersk CCO Vincent Clerc projects historic high rates will cool off in first half of the year.

Shippingwatch reports that the CCO of Maersk, Vincent Clerc, predicts a slowing down of the sizzling container market in the first half of 2021, but that he declines to say exactly when things will tail off.

He said: “It will likely cool off during the first half of the year. Whether it will be in February or April or May, we don’t know, and we’re therefore prepared to keep working as it is now, or to start adjusting for when things return to normal again.”

Clerc says the normalisation of the market depends on how quickly markets re-open and how fast consumption patterns re-establish themselves. In addition to record-high freight volumes, there is a global shortage of shipping containers, to the great chagrin of shippers and freight forwarders around the world.
