Maersk has appointed a new head of department, tasked with greening the global leader’s container fleet, reports Shippingwatch.  Morten Bo Christiansen has served as head of strategy at Maersk since 2015 and will now oversee the line’s green transition.

Christiansen will have key employees drawn from departments responsible for energy efficiency and technical innovation as part of his team. Maersk CEO, Søren Skou said: “We’re already on the front line, but we need to strengthen this position. It is our duty to make our fleet as carbon neutral as possible.”

Maersk intends to be carbon neutral within 30 years and is considering a range of new technologies and new fuels to achieve its aim, including ethanol, methanol, and ammonia, and its stated carbon ambitions reach further than current IMO targets.
