CNN reports about Qatar and Saudi Arabia re-establishing key administrative and diplomatic relations between one another. This includes reopening both air and maritime borders with each other.

This was confirmed by the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al Ahmad al Sabah, who brokered a call between leaders of the two countries – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

This thaw in relations preceded a key meeting between GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries held the following day in AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Significantly, representatives from all GCC countries – including Qatar, were present at the meeting. It was, in fact, the Qatari Emir’s first visit to Saudi Arabia in three years, after relations soured between the two nations.
