In a press release today, the Port of Tilbury and FM Conway have announced a five-year extension to their agreement to load aggregate for FM Conway’s Theale facility. FM Conway is the largest independent supplier of asphalt in the south-east and the new agreement will mean a 100 per cent increase of rail freight with provider, Freightliner, meaning there will be two trains leaving Tilbury per week from this month.

The trains will leave the Thames port on Tuesday and Fridays, carrying over 3000 tonnes of aggregate to Theale, where it will be used to maintain and build the UK’s road network and other construction projects.

Thousands of tonnes of aggregate arrive in Tilbury each month from Norway and the supplies are a vital resource for the upkeep of UK infrastructure. Mark Faraway, Senior Commercial Manager at Tilbury said:

“This is great news to start the year. Our bulks business at The Port of Tilbury is thriving as we have the key ingredients to ensure an efficient and greener supply chain for our customers. We have a good relationship with the team at FM Conway and we are pleased that we can continue this for the next five years.”

Port of Tilbury is the UK’s premier port for forestry products and construction materials and has a strong market presence in bulk commodities, ro-ros, cars, and cruise vessels.
