Oil major, Maersk Drilling, has been awarded two floater contracts by Total. Maersk Valiant and Maersk Developer will be employed for an estimated 500 days as part of Total E&P‘s exploration and appraisal of Suriname’s Block 58. Developer is expected to begin operations in January 2021 and Valiant in March. The total value of the firm contracts is estimated at $100m and the contract includes various extension options.

Morten Kelstrup, CCO of Maersk Drilling, said: “We’re thrilled to firm up these contracts, adding further to our long-standing relationship with Total for whom we have a great track record from our collaboration on a number of deepwater exploration projects…”

Developer is a DSS-21 column-stabilised dynamically positioned semi-submersible rig and can operate in depths of up to 10,000ft. Valiant is a high-spec 7th generation drillship with integrated Managed Pressure Drilling and was delivered in 2013.
