The Columbian Navy, in collaboration with the Caribbean Naval Force and coordinated by the General Maritime Directorate has intensified its search for the missing general cargo ship, Carmen 1.  The ship made a distress call on 21st January that was received by the San José Maritime and River Traffic Control Station, but since then no word has been heard from her.

The Bolivian-flagged vessel has a crew of 10 and was bound for La Guajira from Colón when she went missing. Her last reported position was 60nm off Cartagena. The Columbian Maritime Authority has alerted all merchant shipping in the area and a coordinated search by the Colombian navy, air force and coastguard is underway.

Search and rescue efforts are being assisted by the Caribbean Centre for Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research which has produced a detailed search pattern to help SAR services estimate where the vessel may be. The Carmen 1 is dwt 837, built 1966 and IMO 6612269.
