Authorities announce death of three shipyard workers following incident in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Indonesian authorities have announced the death of three shipyard workers at the PT Barokah Galangan Perkasa shipyard in Kalimantan, reports Safety4Sea. According to local sources, an oil barge caught fire alongside the LPG carrier, Grace V. Video footage shows a violent explosion and the blast was heard in villages many kilometres away.

The Grace V is a 2,010 cu m LPG carrier built in 1989. Local media sources say a fire broke out on 11th February at 2:50 pm local time, causing a plume of black smoke to fill the local area in the Mahakam River, Samarinda.

After the explosion, local emergency services found three bodies in the river where the Indonesian-flagged vessel was moored while being repaired. The fire has been extinguished and an investigation into the source of the blaze is being conducted.
