Recorded Future, the US cybersecurity firm that alerted India’s Computer Emergency Response Team to a Chinese state-sponsored hacking threat on 10th February, says at least one connection is still open to the port’s network.

Stuart Solomon, Recorded Future’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “There’s still an active connection between the attacker and the attackee… It’s still happening.” The company has called the Chinese state-backed hacking group, RedEcho, and says it has targeted as many as 10 entities in India’s power grid and two of its major ports.

In response, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin, said: ” Without any proof, slandering a specific side is irresponsible behaviour and an ill-intentioned one.”

Interference in India’s critical infrastructure has been occurring since the middle of last year and leads back to a violent skirmish between India and Chinese soldiers at a Himalayan border post.
