Four suspected “sea robbers” killed in Nigeria

Akwa Ibom State Police say they have killed four suspected “sea robbers” that were terrorising the Iwukpom/Opolum water channel.

In a statement, Nigerian police say they have killed four pirates who were terrorising the Iwukpom/Opolum water channel in Ibeno local government area. Spokesman, Odiko MacDon, said the criminals were killed in a gun battle on 4th March.

MacDon added that three other members of the gang escaped, but were wounded. A quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene.

“On March 4, 2021, at about 2:30 pm, a team of 29 PMF personnel, who are on special duty at Ibeno, led by ASP Abubakar Yakubu, acting on credible intelligence, while on patrol at Iwukpom/Opolum water channel, accosted a gang of sea pirates numbering about seven which led to a gun battle.”

The arms and equipment recovered included four AK47, two Lar and a K2 rifle, four magazine, and one fast boat with 200HP and 150HP engines.
