LA port honored with infrastructure award
The American Society of Civil Engineers announced that the Port of Los Angeles won a “gamechanger” award for the port authority’s work to modernize its shipping infrastructure.
LOS ANGELES — The American Society of Civil Engineers honored the Port of Los Angeles, Calif., for its Port Optimizer platform that provides digitally-native “real-time, data-driven insights for improving the performance and predictability of the port supply chain,” notes an announcement published by the port authority last week.
“The efficiency of our nation’s ports is essential to delivering goods in a timely manner and keeping the economy moving,” said Jean-Louis Briaud, the president of ASCE, in a statement.
“While many of our efforts to prevent backlogs at these facilities is focused on dredging and the design of intermodal connectors, software can play a major role in keeping track of containers. I applaud the Port of Los Angeles and Wabtec Corp. for developing innovative technology that can help productivity at ports across the nation,” Briaud said.
“Harnessing the power of data to improve cargo efficiency continues to be a priority for the Port of Los Angeles, and our Port Optimizer is at the center of that effort,” said Gene Seroka, the port’s executive director, in a joint statement published on March 11, 2021.
