The Anglo American mining company, one of the world’s largest, has signed an order for two capesize newbuilds to move ore from its mines in Brazil and South Africa to its global customers, reports Tradewinds.

The order for the 190,00-dwt bulkers means Anglo American is now behind orders for a total of six dual-fuel bulkers to ship its ore. Shipbuilding sources said the company placed the order with China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS).

Neither company has commented on the reports, but shipbuilding brokers estimate that ships with these specifications would fetch close to $68m dollars each.

Tradewind’s sources said there is a possibility that Anglo American will hand the new capsizes to another shipping company at a later date. The source said: “Anglo American has in the past expressed that it did not want to own any shipping assets.”
