Briese Schiffahrt has placed a four-vessel order with China’s Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard. The 1,930-teu ships are estimated to be worth around $23m each and will begin to be delivered from the end of 2023, reports Tradewinds.

Wilke Briese, the company’s managing director confirmed the order. The move heralds a move towards the container sector by the multipurpose Leer-based owner/operator.

Briese has been consolidating its involvement in the boxship sector over the last 12 months, with acquisitions of at least five smaller containerships, and the recent purchases take the number of boxships in the company’s fleet to 10 vessels.
