The Canadian government has brought the end of the strike at the Port of Montreal nearer to an enforced end by passing Bill C-29, a back-to-work order.

The bill, entitled: “An Act to provide for the resumption and continuation of operations at the Port of Montreal,” passed after a second reading in the house.

The house debated the bill until 2am local time and it will now move to the Senate for debate and voting. The Senate will be recalled for debate later this week.
