Japanese K Line has followed in the footsteps of Mitsui OSK Lines and Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and established its own offshore wind division.

The company will start with two offshore support vessels, creating K Line Wind Service, with more vessels to be added to the fleet as the business grows.

The Japanese government has stated that it wants wind power to be a substantial part of Japan’s power generation and aims to have the country carbon-neutral by 2050.

Japan’s offshore wind capacity currently stands at 70 MW and Tokyo wants to have up to 45GW offshore wind installed by 2040.
