The Biden administration has invoked emergency powers after the Colonial Pipeline on the US east coast was targeted by hackers. An “all-hands-on-deck” effort has been declared to avoid fuel shortages on the eastern seaboard..

The federal transport department issued an emergency declaration on Sunday that allows drivers carrying gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other petroleum products to work extra or more flexible hours to make up for any deficit due to the pipeline outage.

Colonial Pipeline said it was implementing a “system re-start” plan.

“We are in the process of restoring service to other laterals and will bring our full system back online only when we believe it is safe to do so, and in full compliance with the approval of all federal regulations,” the company said in a statement.
