Aicha, a teenager from Ivory Coast, has survived at sea for 22 days and is one of only three survivors out of 59 migrant passengers.

The incident is the biggest known loss of life involving migrant boats in the Canary Islands. Aicha left her hometown in November and travelled overland to Mauritania where she boarded the open boat. Only her sister knew of her plans to make the journey.

She told her tragic story after spending 10 days in hospital recovering from her ordeal. She was finally rescued by a Spanish Air Force Helicopter and has since been reunited with the crew who rescued her. Her story can be seen at the link below.
