Transocean awarded nine-well P&A contract with Hess
Drilling company, Transocean, has reportedly been awarded a nine-well plug and abandonment contract with Hess Corporation in the Gulf of Mexico.
Offshore drilling company, Transocean, has reportedly signed a deal with the Hess Corporation for a nine-well plug and abandonment contract for the 2010-built ultra-deepwater drillship, Discoverer Inspiration, in the Gulf of Mexico.
The contract is expected to start in the first quarter of 2021 and will take approximately 240 days.
Discoverer Inspiration has been warm stacked since October 2020. Transocean was forced to lay off over 100 workers last September after it failed to secure a contact for the drillship, but said in a statement last year:
“In the event that Transocean obtains a contract for additional work utilizing the Discoverer Inspiration, the company may recall a percentage of the employees who were released from the Discoverer Inspiration; however, Transocean considers the layoffs to be permanent.”
