BASF and RWE have joined forces to provide clean electrical energy to BASF’s Ludwigshafen chemical site with an additional 2GW of offshore wind power.

Announced on Friday, the project aims to convert the production process for basic chemicals at the plant to sustainable energy and enable the CO2-free production of hydrogen.

The CEOs of both companies have signed a letter of intent covering wide-ranging cooperation for the use of innovative technologies for climate protection that could result in a reduction of 3.8mt of CO2 emissions a year. No public subsidies will be need for the new plant the companies said.
