SCA chairman Osama Rabie has told Egyptian media that a $200m deposit would be enough to secure the release of the detained ULCS Ever Given.

During a television interview on Sunday he also said a reduced total sum of $550 would be enough to settle the claims dispute if an out of court agreement could be reached.

The 20,388-teu Ever Given and its cargo are being held in the Great Bitter Lake as the SCA seeks damages for the grounding that closed the vital waterway for six days in March.

The $916 claim includes the cost of freeing the vessel, a salvage cost as stipulated by maritime law, alleged material and reputational damage, and the diversion of shipping.
