Dockworkers and maritime unions in Argentina have followed up their threat to go on strike a second time and have halted ship movements in the Port of Rosario.

Dockworkers in the Argentinian Port of Rosario have gone on 48-hour strike for a second time. They are supported by 10 other unions, including tugboat captains and harbour pilots.

Rosario accounts for more than three-quarters of Argentina’s agricultural exports and last week’s strike stranded seven fully-loaded ships and 13 more that were loading.

The strike comes at Argentina’s peak agricultural season and officials were reportedly issuing port clearances in an effort to get vessels out of the port before the strike came into effect.
