The operator of the Liberian-flagged, 2007-built, NYK Delphinus, has declared a general average after the vessel suffered an engine fire off the California coast earlier this month.

The Delphinus contacted the USCG on the morning of 14th May to report the fire. She had 24 crew aboard and was approximately 50 miles west of Monterey.

There were no injuries following the blaze and the vessel was eventually towed to the Port of Oakland, where she remains.

“In conjunction with the declaration of General Average, the Owners have appointed OCEANA Marine Claims & Adjusting and Marine Adjusting Solutions Inc as the Average Adjusters,” ONE said in its advisory. “As a new update, Blue Seas Adjusters Ltd will be assisting to arrange for the collection of the necessary General Average security from Cargo interests.”
