Panama port volumes up 8.8% in first five months of 2021
Cargo volumes in Panamanian ports grew by 8.8% to 2.01 teu between January and May compared to same period last year.

According to the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), Panama’s port volumes have grown by 8.8% in the first five months of this year, compared to the same period in 2020.
Manzanillo International Terminal-Panama (MIT), on Panama’s Atlantic seaboard, leads the increase with volumes of containerised cargo with 671,473teu, an increase of 7.9%.
It is followed by Panama Ports’ Balboa, on the pacific side, which moved 558,060 teu, up 22.7%.
Evergreen’s Colon Container Terminal (CCT), also on the Atlantic side, showed also a significant growth of 19.2% though moving 198,170 teu.
PSA Panama International Terminal, comes third in terms of throughput with 282,223 teu but registered an overall decrease of 3.2%.
Cristobal, which is administered by Hutchinson Ports, also saw a decrease of 6% to 270,381 teu.
