US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have seized $12.7m worth of counterfeit goods at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The latest round of seizures arrived from seaports in China and included more than 57,000 fake products ranging from bogus prescription medicines, designer sunglasses and footwear, to luxury apparel.

The CBP said the challenge of intercepting counterfeit goods has increased in the past year due to the surge in the level of imports passing through San Pedro Ports.

“CBP along with our HSI and LAPD strategic partners form a united front against transnational criminal organizations who attempt to smuggle counterfeit goods,” said Carlos C. Martel, CBP Director of Field Operations in Los Angeles.
